🌸Top 10s🌸

 Movies (SPOILERS AHEAD)

1. But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)

This ranks #1 because it has SO MANY facets that you wouldn't think could work but yet is very much does. Its so over the top campy but it works so well. With the situation of it being a conversion camp there is so much humor that works. The pacing is great the emotional scenes don't feel rushed or pushed. The characters all representing a queer theme is just SO REFRESHING. Straight Ru Paul is hilarious AND the cherry on top of it all is there is a happy ending!!!! Its queer joy and sadness all in a poppy colorful way. And yet the color doesn't distract from the themes. Also to be honest the sex scene was done so tastefully. Don't even get me STARTED on the soundtrack OH MY GOD ITS SO GOOD. In the end its super cute that Megan expresses herself truly in a way that feels very genuine. SO WELL WRITTEN. You will definitely love if you are into enemies to lovers trope! { + some bonus points because I watched this on a cute date while cuddling a cute girl teehee. (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵) }

But Im a Cheerleader (1999)

2. Carol (2015)

This movie is so high up on my ranking as it truly was the marking of an awakening. If I could describe this movie with one word it would be elegant. Both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara do such a good job in their respective roles. I am not going to lie I am not the biggest fan of age gap relationship movies especially lesbian movies but in this case I think it works. In the end Therese does so much growing in realizing how this relationship wasn't healthy. However, if Carol never came into her life she wouldn't have become a stronger person. The addition of Sarah Paulson character was a nice touch as while her role wasn't explicit but couldn't be louder. The cinematography was gorgeous. This was the first movie that really made me realize I yearned for a feminine relationship.

Where to watch: HBO Max,

Carol (2015)

3. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)

Similar to Carol this movie helped my awakening. I think its really hard to describe what liking a woman is like and this movie managed to gracefully capture this so elegantly. I am feminine and I am naturally into feminine presenting women but not in the way that men see women but in a peculiar in-between where I just can't help but adore beauty. Its wonderful how they were able to capture the feeling of a painter and subject versus painter and realizing she is a muse. Gorgeous cinematography slow pace in the best way. Overall very lovely if you want to see a overall well made Sapphic film this is it.

4. Saving Face 2004

This movie is so special as there aren't a lot of lesbian films out there that deal with not only a personal dilemma but also a cultural dilemma.

5. The Watermelon Woman

Once again I feel like its so important to uplift POC lesbian creatives. This movie is very underrated and SO GOOD.
